IRIDESCENT PINWHEEL
One of my favourite ways to paint is to select objects that initially appear simple, and the more you explore them, the more you see and appreciate the complexity. Sometimes that’s the object itself and sometimes it’s the way light plays in, on and around the surfaces. Pinwheels are a perfect example.
When I’m walking around my neighbourhood, I love to see pinwheels in gardens, slowly revolving in the breeze. We’re always drawn to how the one-piece folded structure creates elegant and efficient fan shapes that capture, bend and reflect sunlight into a whirl of vibrant beauty, activated by the breeze in a way that is mesmerizing. And, there’s that immediate, uplifting emotional connection that always reminds us how nice it is to feel like a kid.
This painting is available exclusively online from Leslie Grove Gallery until Sunday, July 2.
